Advanced Interpretation of the Dr. Yao Chart

The Dr. Yao Chart, derived from BaZi analysis, is a refined tool for observing the energetic functioning of an individual. By translating the 8 characters of the natal chart into the grid of 12 Zang Fu, it illuminates the distribution of the Five Movements and the internal dynamics of the principal meridians.

Important Note

Reading the voids and fullness in the Dr. Yao Chart does not replace Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis, but allows us to refine it by taking into account elements that may not have been perceived during case history, pulse, and tongue assessment. This gives us additional possibilities to integrate into the session to account for the patient's constitution.

Reading Organ and/or Element Voids

The calculation of the Dr. Yao Chart can illuminate weaknesses in individual organs or entire elements (Wood, Fire Emperor, Earth, Metal, Water, Fire Minister).

Example: Earth Element Void

If we find a void in an organ, for example the Stomach, but its paired organ, the Spleen, is also void, then it is the entire Earth element that is suffering. This will indicate greater difficulty in managing difficulties related to the Earth movement in the Five Elements / 五行 WuXing.

Reading Voids in the 2nd Chart of Stems and Hidden Stems

We can also use the 2nd chart representing the stems and hidden stems adjoined to the Dr. Yao Chart.

This chart of stems and hidden stems allows us, among other things, to calculate the Ten Celestial Officials (or Ten Gods) for BaZi interpretation, but it is also very useful for medical reading. It will be representative of our structure, our Pre-Heaven Constitution.

Intersection of the Two Charts

If we have a void in an organ in the Dr. Yao Chart, and this same organ is also void in the 2nd chart representing the stems and hidden stems, then the difficulty related to this organ will be even greater, and thus needs to be considered in the differential diagnosis.

This void becomes even more significant if it is an entire element void in both charts.

Example: a complete Water void with Kidneys and Bladder void in both charts.

Reading Along Energetic Axes

It is also possible to reason along energetic axes, with the reading of voids or fullness:

Yin Axes:

  • Taiyin: Spleen and Lung
  • Jueyin: Liver and Pericardium
  • Shaoyin: Heart and Kidneys

Yang Axes:

  • Yangming: Stomach and Large Intestine
  • Taiyang: Bladder and Small Intestine
  • Shaoyang: Gallbladder and Triple Burner

Examples of Clinical Application

  • If we have a void in the Lung and in the Spleen, we will have a void in the Taiyin. This may signify a difficulty in the production of YingQi, Nutritive Qi, which needs to be taken into account.
  • If we have a void in the Heart and in the Kidneys, we will have a void in the Shaoyin. This may manifest as a loss of bearings, or difficulty finding one's life path.
  • If we have a fullness with several circles in the Liver and a void in the Pericardium, we will have an imbalance at the level of the Jueyin. This could manifest as an emotional imbalance; it may be opportune to facilitate circulation in this axis by using the 18-RM Yutang 玉堂, the master point of the Jueyin.

Conclusion

It should be noted that these voids, fullness, or imbalances represent a constitutional particularity of the client. This will be part of their structure and they will always need to work on this aspect in their life theme.

If the client has, for example, a Metal void, this void will always be there and we will need to help them periodically if necessary through acupuncture or other Chinese Medicine techniques. It is important to clarify for them to pay attention to nourishing their Metal element in daily life with a preventive perspective.
